Instructions for Installing Leather Cover on Porsche Oddments Try Lid and Cassette Lid.

You'll need
Contact cement (Weldwood, 3M, Or similar)
Mineral Spirits or similar
Scissors.
Heat gun or hair dryer

Take the lid cover off the console.
Remove the frame on the underside.
Note how the vinyl is trimmed on the underside. You will trim the leather in a similar fashion.
Carefully remove the vinyl. You don't want to tear the underlying foam.
Clean off any remaining glue residue with mineral spirits or something similar.
Let it dry
Dry fit the cover to get a feel for the leather.
Make note of where and how it lines up. It is not necessary to apply glue to the entire surface of the leather or lid cover
Apply contact cement to the edges of the underside of the lid on only one side edge and front or rear edge.
Apply same to edges of the leather cover.
You have glue on only two of the four sides.
Put the cover on, line it up and press the sides with the glue together.
Don't press the corners together yet.
Recheck the fit and alignment and reposition the side you just glued if necessary.
Make sure the unglued side will line up correctly, seams are straight, and the crest is centered.
Apply glue to the remaining 2 sides.
Press into place along the sides.
Recheck alignment
Pull the corners toward the center firmly to remove wrinkles. Heating the leather will soften it and help in fitting it.
Cut a small V into the leather on the inside of each corner to remove some material and allow the leather to lay flat. The point of the V should be only 1/8" from where the leather meets the edge of the cover. Be careful here, too much cutting will allow the cuts to show. Work slow, if your unsure make small cuts first, then bigger as you check the fit.
After you trim each corner apply glue to the cover and leather and then press it into place.
Trim all the excess material from the underside to allow the plastic liner to fit and clear the hinges.
If you get wrinkles, heat it with a hair dryer to soften and reactivate the glue, pull the leather back and reposition it. If you have winkles or gathering in the corners apply some heat to those and the surrounding areas.
Keep the heat gun moving. You don't want it to burn so don't over do it. As the leather gets hot it will shrink up enough to smooth out the wrinkles.
